From a bucket of dirty water to clean, flowing water...
Clean drinking water is taken for granted in the United States but it is a rare and precious commodity in Haiti. With your help, we can give rural Haitian villagers access to clean water on a daily basis, improving their lives dramatically. The mission of Hand to the Plow Ministries’ water program is simple: Provide a clean source of drinking water to more than 180 Haitian villages and make a way for the Haitian believers to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Living Water, on a daily basis. This means exchanging polluted surface water that sickens and kills for clean water for nearly 100,000 Haitians -- about 50,000 of whom are children.
Our contacts in Haiti, developed since 1983, and our own experiences over 20 years, have shown us that this is truly a dire need. Our hearts have been broken by looking into the faces of the little ones sick from dehydration and disease. Even worse is looking into the grief stricken faces of parents who have already lost children. We feel called to help alleviate this suffering.
Well-drillers in Haiti are overwhelmed with the needs and requests for clean water. With our rural contacts and knowledge of the land, we have been drilling wells ourselves for four years and do the work through a network of volunteers across the United States. In this case, the laborers are many but the funds are few. Each well costs $4,400 to initially put down, and can provide water for 400 Haitians. We drill the wells at the churches, giving the Haitian Christians a daily opportunity to share clean water and spread the Gospel. Everyone who comes to get water has the prospect of hearing about Jesus, the Living Water.
