Christmas
for Haiti
Newsletter August 2008
"The people living in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned."
Dear Friends,
Greetings in Jesus!
Last year, the Christmas for Haiti team visited a Haitian village called
Kariese. We were warned that there had been recent trouble with a previous
medical clinic. You could feel a dark spiritual climate as we
entered the village. When we arrived, we moved the church’s benches outside the
brush arbor into an opening under some shade trees. Villagers that were not a
part of the church began to gather into the make-shift outdoor area. While there
was oppression in the air as we began to act out the Christmas story, light
began to settle upon the faces of the Haitians who had gathered. It was like
someone turned on the light switch. By the time we were done sharing, the
atmosphere had changed and the Presence of Christ was thick. Then the greatest
gift of all took place as we witnessed souls converted and wonderfully saved.
The light of Christ had overcome and the gift of God, Jesus, was received.
What a glorious time to see the faces of the children as they finished singing
their Christmas carols and received their gifts. It’s truly priceless! Please
continue to pray with us for this village and its people. We are trusting that
this year the spiritual climate will be even better.
The Christmas gifts you enable us to send and give to Haiti helps open the
door for the Gospel. Both young and old villagers are receptive to the
Gospel story. They need hope so desperately. The hunger in Haiti is so great
right now they are calling it "Clorox" because of the way it is eating away at
their stomachs. Many are making what we would know as "mud pies," not as a fun
children’s game, but literally making
and
eating them for something to fill their stomachs. The need is incredible and
hope is deteriorating.
The hunger for encouragement is also great! When we asked Sister Phyllis about the Christmas Project in comparison to the physical hunger, she responded by saying, "They live with hunger all the time, but a little encouragement goes a long way." These simple gifts offer that encouragement. Phyllis said she "doesn’t even want to think about the children’s faces should we not be able to deliver the Christmas gifts with the message of hope through Christ."
You said "Go for it!" and we are! Because of the difficulty of the
economy and our finances being upside down by $15,000 last year, we asked you if
this project should continue and if you would help us carry on. You responded
with an emphatic "yes" and sent us the needed help to bring us out of the hole
and we have $800.00 to start the project for this year.

$1.00 can give Encouragement to a Haitian Child. One dollar will enable us to buy, pack, and ship a gift to one child, so $10 means gifts for 10 children or $20 for 20 children or $100 for 100 children. How powerful would it be on Christmas morning in America, knowing you were able to bless so many children in Haiti for Christmas as well?
How You Can Help. We still need nearly $25,000 this year to help us purchase, package and ship 25,000 gifts to the children of Haiti. Can you help us spread the "light" again this year? On behalf of Sister Phyllis, the Haitian children, and Hand to the Plow, thank you!

Great Report
concerning
Christmas for Haiti 2007
Dear Friends,
Hooah!
"Hooah" is an army
expression we use around here that means, "We're
with you."
This is what you said to us by your
response to our recent letter concerning the future of Christmas for Haiti. We
appreciated it so much!
To the Haitian children, the Christmas story just never grows old. What a powerful time we had together in Haiti as 23 of us, from 5 different states, went to share that wonderful story. We had dozens respond to Christ as we spoke of His incredible love and sacrifice.
In some of the villages, where the enemy seems to have had such a stronghold, God's presence overwhelmed the place. Villagers would gather and the love of God would break through.
It was obvious that one young lady was really set against the Lord and wanted nothing to do with Him. By the end of our time together, she had tears flowing down her cheeks as she melted under His loving Presence. What a time!
One young boy had a bad infection in his thumb and hand from a machete cut. He couldn’t move his thumb and was in a great deal of pain. We couldn’t do anything but give him prayer and God's love. The next day he returned and came up to one of the young ladies with a big smile. He could move his thumb and the pain was gone! Praise God!
Please continue to believe with us specifically for the villages of Kariese and Barbancourt where the Lord is breaking strongholds. We are also trusting for healing as well, there were many sick with fever.
I am convinced that the love that is shared through your prayers and support goes with us in great power. God's presence gets into the presents and with it comes healing, deliverance, hope and joy. Thank you for ministering to the suffering in Haiti and thank you for helping us with our needs. Our deficit of $15,000 just a few short weeks ago is now down to $4,000. Hallelujah! We would appreciate your help to get us into the black as we begin preparing for next year.
God is on the move and we consider it a privilege to have your "Hooah" with us as we minister to some of the poorest children in the Western Hemisphere.
Thanks again!

“Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts
of gold and of incense and of myrrh.” Matthew 2:11
“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers
of mine, you did for Me.” Matthew 25:40
Dear Friends,
One man said that Jesus meets us in the faces of those who
are in need. We have the incredible privilege of meeting the Lord in the faces
of the children of Haiti and they are truly in need. I was stunned after viewing
a special report on the children of
Haiti. The program shared that over 300,000 Haitian
children are given into servitude every year. Their parents, who live in
the rural parts of Haiti, cannot afford to care for their own children. Their
only choice to ensure their children’s survival is to give them away as “bond
slaves” to a family in the city. For most young ladies, the unthinkable takes
place. It is overwhelming to think that Haiti is just 700 miles off the
coastline of southern Florida; it is way too close to home to ignore.
A Gift of Love
We can make a
difference! Your intercessions and prayers are always needed and making a
difference. Sometimes those intercessions can take a very tangible form. We
are believing God to affect 30,000 children (this is just 10% of the 300,000
children I just mentioned) with a practical gift of God’s love. We really
believe that not only the gift, but the love of God in this gift, can
overcome darkness in Haiti and brings in the light of Christ.
We have seen the difference in the smiles that come over
the children’s faces. What a time they have as they open
their individually wrapped gift; their eyes become as big as saucers! In a land
where suffering is common and 60 percent of children die before the age of five,
this practical gift of love means so much.
The Gospel is sent out
When we visit, the
children in each village hear the Christmas story and many souls are saved. The
wrapping paper of each gift tells the Christmas story in Creole and invites
everyone to give their heart to Jesus so the message also goes home to each
family. Haitians are being saved and it happens — every year! We have the
opportunity to touch 30,000 children with the Gospel. What’s the worth of just
one soul?
Join with us as we believe big! We see Jesus in the face of every child and believe God will meet their need as we give “in Jesus’ name.” Thanks for caring. Thanks for helping. And thanks for changing the face of Haiti.

“New Seasons” Greetings
December 2006
Dear Friends,
“It’s a new season and what a season it is!”
This was the word the Holy Spirit sent us with this year on our Christmas for
Haiti trip. And during this new season, Haiti was full of joyous surprises.
What a season it is!
Thank you for being a part of allowing us the privilege to share the greatest story ever told to the children in Haiti. God was truly among us as the Holy Spirit helped us convey “good news of great joy” to them. In each village, non-believers would crowd outside the building to listen in as the story was being told to the room full of children. What a time! Souls were saved and God’s love was made very practical through each gift that was handed out.
This year we were able to wrap and ship 25,000 Christmas gifts for the children of Haiti. The depths of God’s love revealed through the eyes of the children speak volumes, it truly makes every trip more than worth while. Quite frankly, the children steal your heart away, and as you leave to head to the next village, you leave a little piece of your heart behind.
One of the young
men on this trip was involved in packing the gifts stateside here in Sarasota.
He shared how much of a difference it made in his life to be a part of seeing
the gifts reach their final destination into the hands of the Haitian children!
Another young man who was on the trip shared
how much love he felt in each of the Christmas packages. After we share the
nativity story and the gifts, the Haitian pastors and teachers have a Christmas
celebration with the children in which we try to include peanut butter
sandwiches and Kool-Aid. This young man testified
that even the sandwiches felt
blessed because our group sang over them with rejoicing and prayer as we made
them!
To date,
however, we still are lacking nearly $6,000 toward this year’s project. We
believe “He who has begun this good work will carry it out to completion...”
Phil 1:6. But we also know that the way God expresses that love and faith which
brings completion is through friends like you. Your gift would really mean a lot
as we look towards making up this deficit
and begin planning for next year’s ministry.
God truly blessed our Christmas for Haiti group on
this trip. We even had a wonderful surprise as we made our way back
to the Haitian airport on our journey home. One of the elders in this
ministry, George Bryant,
felt led to share a word of encouragement to the Haitian brothers who were
accompanying us to Port-au-Prince. Because
of that encouraging word, the Haitian brothers exploded into their own new
season of joy and celebration of God’s love. I would encourage you to take a
look at the video clip of that time by going to the
CFH - Haitian Brothers
button below. I think it will help and bless you.
Thank you for allowing us to share the blessings of this wonderful season with
you. May God bless you with your own new season of joy.
